In order to fully implement the Party’s educational policy and teaching philosophy, and firmly establish the idea of “health first”, the Physical Education College of Jilin University aims to construct a public physical education curriculum system suitable for the development of first-class universities, in accordance with the Implementation Guidance on the Construction of First-class Undergraduate Courses by the Ministry of Education and Implementation Guidance of Jilin University in Accelerating the Development of First-Class Undergraduate Education and Building a High-Level Talent Training System, Implementation Guidance of Jilin University on the Quality Improvement Plan of Public Basic Courses and other documents. The college has been enriching course content and moral guidance by optimizing its curricula; improving teaching quality through intelligent teaching methods; and enhancing the effects of talents cultivation through daily teaching, training, Sunny Sports (a national student sports program), physical fitness test, and scientific research. The goal is to improve students’ physical fitness, develop their athletic ability; shape students’ healthy personality, improve their physical and psychological quality; cultivate students’ healthy behavior and develop lifelong sports habits. In doing so, the construction of a double first-class university can be facilitated.
Sunny Sports Program
In order to improve college students’ fitness and health, enrich campus sports culture, and create a “sporty, healthy, vibrant, and colorful campus”, the Physical Education College has actively carried out the Sunny Sports program according to its annual work plan. The program is divided into multiple sports events in five levels, strives to meet the diverse sports needs of students, and allows more students to participate in sports activities.
Level A: university-level sports programs, such as the Jilin University Track and Field Games;
Level B: campus-unique sports programs, such as the “Snow Cup” football match on the Heping Campus;
Level C: diversified sports programs at the college level, such as football, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, badminton, tennis competitions;
Level D: sports programs carried out by student associations and independently organized and refereed by students, such as the Wushu Association, the Little People Association, the Chess and Card Association.;
Level E: sports training activities, including training for teachers, students, and children of faculty and staff.
Physical Fitness Test
College students bear the hope of China and the future of the nation. A good physique is the prerequisite for college students to serve the motherland and the people. To encourage college students to actively participate in sports activities and improve their physical fitness in an all-round way, the physical fitness test of the undergraduates is conducted every year in accordance with the requirements of the Ministry of Education, specifically including: height, weight, vital capacity, standing long jump, sitting forward bending, 50 meters, 800 (female)/1000 (male) meters, sit-ups (female) / pull-ups (male). The test is undertaken by specially trained public physical education teachers. The Student Physical Fitness Test and Development Center assumes the responsibility for physical fitness test, and the data is statistically analyzed, filed, and reported on a regular basis.
